Mailbox: Stop third man in the tackle from lifting leg

Dear James,

Not so much a rule change as a new rule. I would like to see the lifting of a singular leg by the third man into a tackle taken out of the game.

Personally and from experience (only in the amateur game) it puts the leg on the ground in to much of a vulnerable position.

Editor’s comment: It’s interesting to see the amount of work rugby union are doing to improve player safety, and given that player welfare is somewhat of a buzz phrase in rugby league, I’d expect to see more changes in that regard in the not too distant future.
